“I’ve taken various courses from Shelby over the years, and this year-long immersion is by far the most in-depth program I’ve found. Shelby’s whimsical, playful style creates an inviting environment where we can grow our understanding of plants, fungi, and the land we frequent. Each month centers on a specific focus, helping us dig deeper into new perspectives and approaches. Working with this cohort has been incredible for building a sense of community, and the blend of discussions, lectures, and hands-on activities truly brings the topics to life.”

– Ryy S.

“I am so glad I decided to participate in the yearlong foraging immersion program. It was nourishing to be in community with others who are passionate about building reciprocity with nature. Focusing on a topic each month helped me attune to cycles present in nature, which is healing in a world where cycles are often overlooked. I learned so much that I will take forward with me in life.”

Rooted in Respect. Grown in Community.

Wildwood Folk School was born from the belief that earth-based knowledge belongs to everyone—not just the folks with hiking boots and a background in botany. We offer hands-on classes that reconnect people with plants, place, and each other.

We center accessibility, curiosity, and cultural humility in all we do—creating a space where BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and beginner learners are not just welcomed, but prioritized.

We’re not here to gatekeep ancestral knowledge. We’re here to gather around it, learn together, and remember what it means to be in right relationship with the land and each other.

I love how easy it is to learn from Shelby. They’re funny, entertaining, and make the material relevant by personifying plants and exploring each ecosystem’s perspective. This approach helps me relate the lessons to my own experiences and broadens my view beyond a human-centered outlook. The classes are a blast—everyone’s ‘nerdy’ about mushrooms and other fascinating topics. I felt I got my money’s worth after the first few sessions; everything since then has been an added bonus.”

“This isn’t your average ‘survival skills’ thing. It’s heart-centered, inclusive, and actually fun. I laughed, I learned, I made mushroom tacos.”

“This program was way more than I ever could have wished for. Shelby has an incredibly engaging and entertaining way of teaching, and such a vast knowledge base. I looked forward to every class and got so much out of each one; not only facts, but hands-on learning and experiences that gave me the confidence to apply what I learned in my own life.”
